| | Some indy-cafe-kind-of-stuff | ] | Ok, so Odessa is one hell of a shit-hole town. The kids organizing for Anti Racist Action, however, kick some serious fucking ass. The show went allright, but the club owner kept a big fucking chunk of the door. Kind of shitty for a benefit show. We really wanted to stay at the party they had for us after the show, but unknowns in Tuscon caused us to leave early.
I'm currently sitting in a cafe in downtown Tuscon. Dave and Bobby are out scouting around for a possible alternate show. Why you ask? Because the guys in charge of our show here have yet to call us back with the location of the house party we're playing. Whee.
My phone doesn't work outside of the OKC metro area, so I've turned it off. Fuck US Cellular. I'm having a blast regardless of all of this. A road trip was just what I needed.
I just overheard Ben on the phone saying we're probably going to end up playing 2 shows tonight. Fucking awesome. I'm gonna go do something now.
Hail Satan, Patrick. |

Well, a lot of stuff happens. Some of that stuff happened between now and my last post. For example, I imbibed liquor somewhere in that time span. Pizza might have happened. There was no panda.
The job has changed, for those in the dark. I'm a professional salad-tosser now. It's neat.
The band is touring in March, which will probably change the employment status bit. That's ok, I don't really like tossing salad anyway. I do, however, like touring. In theory. Just think, free booze across America. We've been hitting the studio hard lately to prepare for it. To hear rough examples of said studio-hitting, click here.
My driver's liscense is still suspended. I can get it back now, but there are a lot of fees involved, so I won't. It would have expired tomorrow anyway. Walking is good for the health, right?
It's time for a vacation from reality. Sweet oblivion. Got any?
Honor thy Dark Lord.

And this is what the devil did...
This one is being sent from a realm of awesome that most of you readers will never experience or understand. Just try to bear with me and keep an open mind.
Ok, so this is an update. I did some stuff in the last month. Very interesting stuff. Don't you wish that you did things this interesting? I know. But you don't, so stop trying. It's really not worth the effort. You will never acheive this. Ok, to the point.
I no longer work at Ruby's Diner. Those fascist bastards just couldn't cope with the free-form awesomeness that is my life. I moved in with Guss and Brother Cole. We have a most righteous townhouse duplex on the west side. Very spartan, very beery. Another tattoo has been aquired, more to come soon. For now I will have to settle for a Burtin-ish bass cleff on my upper back. Very black, a bit itchy.
I got a phone. No, you can't have the number.
The band is moving along at a steady pace, with many shows booked and an upcoming release in the near future. It'll be on vinyl, so fuck you non-record-player-owning losers. Losers like me, who also doesn't own one. Look out for us on 12/14, 12/29 with Jake Armstrong on guitar for one night only, and 01/09. They are all at The Deli.
Did I mention that I'm awesomer than you? Send money. Really. I'll work for food or booty at this point. Sugar-mama applications will follow shortly, to be turned in in triplicit for approval by committee.
That is all for now.
Hail Satan, Patrick.
p.s. None of you will ever be as awesome as me. I used linux for this post. I will watch Polar Express now. |

[Sep. 27th, 2005|03:55 pm] |
The Gunship will celebrate their mighty return on Thursday, Sept. 29th, at the Red Dirt on campus corner. This will be our first show with new lead guitar player Ben Carter. He has a much different style, so expect a different, stronger, faster Gunship. With horns. Yeah, I like horns. We open around 10:30, followed by Purple Cow Story. Same Day Service (!!!) headlines. As always, Band-aid applications are to be turned in to Jason the super-duper guitar tech for review and approval. Probably more of the latter, we are all about equal opportunities and shit. Should be a $5 cover.
Also, we're playing a hurricane benefit at Meacham Auditorium on Saturday, oct. 1st. Show starts 1pm, The Gunship around 9. Lineup on the flyer is (in order): Poncho Villa and the Welfare Checker, The Needles, BC, Blazer Blaze, Home Grown Tomatoes, Simple Tree, The Hex, Radial Angel, The Gunship, Ghost of Monkshood, and Klipspringer.
$10 at the door $8 with a flyer $5 kids under 12 Free kids under 5
All proceeds go to the American Red Cross. |

| | Ben Folds Five - Brick | ] | So, I only had to work 1 job last night! That meant scotch at Casey's new place! I like scotch. I like some other things about last night, but am probably alone in that. Ah well. Can't be an angst-ridden, hair shakin', hard drinkin' rocker if you get the girl, right?
Got new photos from Scott Mellgren. They fucking rock. He got some great ones of Jake's last show with The Gunship. See them here. The top ones are of Klipspringer's set, we're further down the page, as we played last.
Fuck it, Patrick. |

| | Ministry - T.V. II | ] | I made dinner for The Decembrists at Ruby's tonight. They came in after the Diamond Ballroom stop of their tour! My brother is all about that band, so they autographed one of our menus for him. I totally just scored ten billion coolest big brother in the universe points! He didn't get to go to their show (school night) but now he can show that to all of his friends who did.
Oh, and deep-fried twinkies will be on the menu. We were gonna name 'em after me, but Hosty always sings about nasty state fair food, so we're gonna call them Hosties! Thinking about letting them go 2 for $1.49. I don't think anyone will finish one, but they're awesome none the less!
Be excellent to each other. |

All of the cooks are bass players. The manager is in ESO. Yep, it's just a bunch of degenerates cooking all night for way too much money. But we do it well. When I listen to music in most places, it's on a boombox only audible in the kitchen. At this place, we listen to Ministry's Psalm 69 on the resteraunts PA. No Muzak for Ruby's!

I got "The Super Leprechaun" - What the fuck?
In other news:
I got off work at Shuttle today around 10:30. At 11:30, I get a call from Chad of ESO. "Do you want a job? Can you get to Ruby's Diner in 20 minutes?" Yes, yes I could. I like money a lot. And this will be a lot of money and a lot of fun. The place opens at 10pm and closes at 3pm. They serve beer. At 6 in the morning. When I get off of work. Now, here's the best part: It's owned by the same girl that owns The Deli. That means nearly all of my money comes to me because of her. She books the shows at her bar!
So come on in. I'll be there Tuesday through Friday, 10pm-6am. You can order a beer with your scrambled eggs and listen to Rock 'n Roll. |

| | Portishead - Pedestal | ] | 1. Open up the music player on your computer. 2. Set it to play your entire music collection. 3. Hit the shuffle command. 4. Tell us the title of the next ten songs that show up (with their musicians), no matter how embarrassing. That's right, no skipping that Carpenters tune that will totally destroy your hip credibility. It's time for total musical honesty. Write it up in your blog or journal and link back to at least a couple of the other sites where you saw this. 5. If you get the same artist twice, you may skip the second (or third, or etc.) occurrences. You don't have to, but since randomness could mean you end up with a list of ten song with five artists, you can if you'd like.
1) Kiss - God Gave Rock and Roll to You 2) Prince - Purple Rain 3) Lamb - Wonder 4) Reverend Horton Heat - Bails of Caocaine 5) Misfits - She 6) Ben Folds Five - Selfless, Cold, and Confused 7) Spacehog - In the Meantime 8) Pansy Division - Homo Christmas 9) Horror Pops - Baby Lou Tattoo 10) Portishead - Pedestal |

| | Gorrilaz - Kids w/ Guns | ] | Ok, so this week:
Played last show with Jake on Wednesday. Much awesomeness was had. We had a capacity crowd at The Deli, and the sidewalk outside was packed too! Rocked one hell of a fucking bass solo following/blending from one hell of a fucking drum solo. Spit beer all over Dave. Not intentionally, I was a bit inebriated and meant to aim at the crowd. Too bad I was facing the wrong direction. Humped my bass a bit.
After, we had a party in my backyard to celebrate the show and for our last night in the house. The cops should have come. Really. Drunk people in trees screaming and throwing sticks is the best idea anyone has ever had. I fell asleep in my flowerbed at dawn. Jake slept on the porch.
Had sad going-away time with Jake for the rest of the week. It was sad. He's all gone away to New York now. I live at my parent's house for now. So there's a phone. Make use of it.
More news: I've had just about enough of the real world. I've been acknowledging it for a couple of years now and have decided to beat a full and hasty retreat to my own personal parallel universe. The one that intersects with this one at key points of my choosing. So find me there.
Hail Satan, Patrick. |
